Ecce is an independent animated short film exploring the mystery of human redemption. It reflects on humanity's inability to overcome the fractures and consequences of sin through its own strength, and on the need for an intervention that comes from beyond the self - the mercy of the Redeemer.
The film combines computer animation with fragments of original photography. Its images form a symbolic and experimental narrative in which meaning is created through movement, light, visual forms and signs.
Mathematical symbols appearing between individual sequences act as both commentary and interpretative keys. Resembling equations, they guide the viewer through a visual reflection on the human condition, purification and redemption.
The visual composition is accompanied by music composed by Paweł Łukowiec, with piano performed by Marek Mizera. The music helps shape the rhythm, atmosphere and contemplative character of the film.
The film won 1st Place at the 12th edition of DFF Slavangard 2018 in the Best Experimental Film and Animation category.
Ecce was also an Official Selection of the 25th Etiuda&Anima International Film Festival 2018 in Krakow, where it was selected for ANIMA.PL, the competition for Polish short animated films.
Its festival presence and the award received at DFF Slavangard confirmed the potential of experimental animation as a visual language for exploring spiritual and existential themes.
